EarthCARE in Orbit Validation Workshop, Frascati, Italy, March 17th-20th
There is an open invitation to take part in the 2nd workshop, organised by ESA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Activities will include discussing findings from initial validation activities and formulating recommendations for product improvements. Register by March 3rd.
40th International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment (ISRSE), Farnborough, March 17th-21st
ISRSE-40, organised by the International Committee for Remote Sensing of Environment (ICORSE), will run alongside the new Farnborough International Space Show. The global summit is held every two years and is aimed at scientists, researchers, policy and practitioners as well as hosting international space agencies. The subtitle this year is ‘Synergy in Sight: Harnessing Earth Observation for Sustainable Development’. Inaugural GEO Global Forum, Rome, May 5th-9th
A new international event (based on the former GEO Week) to harness and advance Earth Intelligence in GEO’s 20th anniversary year. Farm Greenhouse Gas Accounting: an Insight Event, Cranfield University, 12-4pm, May 8th
A workshop for the new BBSRC Land Use for Net Zero (LUNZ) Footprint project to develop and evaluate a scalable auditable farm and food-level greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting framework for UK land use. It will be an in-person meeting for stakeholders within travelling distance of Cranfield University in Bedfordshire, including regional policy, and supply chain representatives who are interested/involved in greenhouse gas assessment on UK farms, farmers, land managers, advisers and land agents. The project involves five research institutions, three GHG calculator companies and Savills. This is the second of five regional insight events across the UK. Future events are planned for Scotland on June 16th, and for Wales, and Northern Ireland. S4C Members’ Conference 2025 PLUS Collaboration Earth Workshop – Airbus, Stevenage, Herts, May 14th
The 2025 in-person S4C Conference is for members’ only and will take place in the morning. In the afternoon we will be joined by the non-space user community for Collaboration Earth – a workshop to explore ways that Earth Observation data can address critical climate applications. The workshop, from 12.30-5pm, is open to all UK providers of satellite climate services and those who currently use or are interested in using satellite climate data in their activities, products, and initiatives. UK Freshwater Quality Programme Webinar – LTLS-FE Project Update, 12-1pm, June 19th
A team of researchers working on the £1.6m project The Long-term and Large Scale Freshwater Ecosystems (LTLS-FE) will be presenting, including Dr Victoria Bell, UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH); Theo Jackson, Rothamsted Research; Dr William Perry, Cardiff University and Mark Rhodes-Smith, UKCEH. Climate Adaptation in Agronomy with Satellite Technology, online, 10-11.30am, October 20th
This takes place in Agri-Tech Week as part of the Space4Climate-funded Market Breakthrough Phase 2. It targets stakeholders in delivering ‘the last mile’ of innovation to farms. Project activities include discussions/interactions, culminating in a report to S4C. The collaborative project is led by Pixalytics to showcase to the agriculture community the benefits and opportunities of using satellite imagery, as well as discussing barriers, with the objective of overcoming them. The Space Climate Observatory’s second international webinar will feature NCEO’s Mat Williams, of University of Edinburgh, talking about the Biomass satellite which is already receiving plaudits for the images it has captured during its commissioning phase following its April launch. Three accredited SCO projects will be highlighted and anyone considering applying to have their own project or product added to the global platform will get some valuable pointers. The projects are: TropiSCO (from France, supported by CNES) – Monitoring tropical deforestation; CarbonAtlas-THA (from Thailand, supported by GISTDA) – Improving forest carbon stock estimation in Thailand and CACAO (from Italy, supported by ASI) – Providing carbon credit AI tools based on Earth Observation.
