Climate and Finance Conference: Insurance for Climate Risk: Indemnity, Parametric and Hybrid Solutions, ICMA Centre, Henley Business School, University of Reading, 9.30am-6pm, November 3rd
Organised by Henley Business School and our members University of Reading in collaboration with the Met Office. Aimed at academics, climate scientists, policymakers and industry practitioners to examine how insurance design and climate analytics can address growing challenges around insurability, affordability and climate-protection gaps, particularly in the UK and Europe. Professor Enrico Biffis of Imperial Business School will deliver the keynote address. Register before October 21st. No fee.
Resolution Thermal Remote Sensing: Directional Effects and Applications in Cities and Croplands, Leicester, November 3rd-5th
A special interest group event organised by NCEO and UK Space Agency. The deadline for abstract submission is September 6th and registration opens on September 21st. Full details here.
ECMWF 2026 Workshop on Machine Learning for Land and Hydrology, Reading, November 3rd-5th
Experts in machine learning, hydrology, and land-surface modelling will discuss the development and use of ML-based and ML-enhanced forecasting systems. It will focus on datasets, methods, applications, and evaluation strategies for machine-learning approaches, covering fully data-driven, hybrid, and physics-informed models. Contributions will span both global and regional perspectives, addressing ML-based prediction of streamflow, floods, soil moisture, and key land-surface processes, with an emphasis on robustness, scalability, and operational relevance. Global Forests Earth Observations Initiative (GFOI), Rome, November 3rd-5th
GFOI Country forum: A south-south knowledge exchange (GFOI SSX) is being held by GFOI and the Accelerating Innovative Monitoring for Forests (AIM4Forests) programme, at the HQ of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The programme will feature three parallel streams:
- Country-led planning to institutionalize National Forest Monitoring Systems
- Measurement, Reporting and Verification: Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) Eligibility and Monitoring
- Forest monitoring for transparent commodity supply chains, hosted by the AIM4Commodities initiative

Multi-sensor Earth Observation for oil & gas, webinar, November 4th
A free webinar hosted by UP42. It will cover how remote sensing data is used across the oil and gas asset lifecycle, including exploration, pipeline monitoring, asset integrity and emissions detection; data procurement and access, how the use of imagery in oil and gas exploration has changed over the decades, and how AI is used to extract information from overhead imagery. How resolution matters: The future of AI Climate Modelling, Germany, 7.30am-3.30pm BST, November 6th
Organised by the Center for Earth System Observation and Computational Analysis (CESOC) and European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS). The programme will examine what resolution AI climate models really need in training, with experts in atmospheric physics, numerical modelling and AI. They will discuss the role of resolution in future climate AI modelling and explore strategies for developing more efficient and reliable AI-based models. More details.

Energy and Insurance Future Climate Resilience Event, London, all day, November 10th
Organised by the Royal Meteorological Society and co-hosted with ARUP, looking at how the Energy and Insurance sectors can ensure a future that is resilient to climate change. It is aimed at industry professionals, academic researchers and policy-makers across the full range of the sectors, and at all stages of their careers. The day will include talks from prominent members of both sectors speaking on topics such as extreme weather events, risk modelling and climate data, an expert panel Q&A, a workshopping session where members of both sectors can discuss the current usages of data, handling of uncertainties and attribution of events to future impact studies, and a networking drinks reception afterwards. £50 for non-members. Space Climate Observatory World Virtual Congress, online, November 16th-20th
An exciting new, global event, running parallel to Week 2 of COP31 in Türkiye and Space4Climate and UK Space Agency are co-hosting the opening event with French space agency, CNES. The event is being held by S4C members, Imago, and will feature demonstrations, speakers and activities, all showcasing the power of satellite imagery, and Smart Data more broadly, for solving pressing sustainability, prosperity, and wellbeing challenges.
