From Net Zero to energy transitioning – the UK’s climate data from space community points the way

News  |  12 October, 2022

How can climate data from space support innovative climate products and climate action for the energy sector? From net zero to transitioning from fossil fuels, the UK’s Earth Observation community leads the way.

Space4Climate gathers the UK’s Earth Observation community focussed on researching and delivering trustworthy environmental data in support of climate action. We will be bringing a showcase of this expertise in action to EMEX London, the UK’s Net Zero and Energy Management Expo, taking place in London from November 23rd-24th.

Please visit us on stand H24 and talk to us and our members about:

  • Trustworthy data to achieve net zero
  • Collaboration on innovative climate services development
  • Practical decision-support data platforms
  • Urban heat islands
  • Monitoring emissions and measuring change
  • Thermal heat mapping from space
  • Contributing to the global stocktake
  • Future opportunities offered by climate data from space.

Chaired by the UK Space Agency, Space4Climate’s members span government, industry and academia, uniting those with expertise in the development of satellites, analysis and exploitation of data they gather, and production of quality-assured global data and climate services.

Collaborate with UK experts in Earth Observation

Our expert members work with stakeholders and decision-makers to respond to emerging needs for cutting-edge technological advances in climate action, Net Zero targets and sustainability strategies. We bring together collaborations of industry and world-class researchers to develop prototype demonstrators, to scope out the potential for climate services and to share breaking climate science developments and funding opportunities.

Decision support and monitoring

Climate data from space can be used to provide information on past changes and future scenarios for Earth’s full diversity of environments. Understanding variability in a location – what is ‘normal’, as well as how this is changing – is important for a variety of climate services.  Decision support and monitoring services that make use of climate data from space can help to improve our environment and our lives including:

  • Understanding and monitoring climate change
  • Design of our cities, infrastructure, homes and workplaces
  • Optimising logistics
  • Understanding the air we breathe

Find out more by visiting us at EMEX London – stand H24. You can’t miss us – just head for the interactive PufferSphere which is showcasing real-world examples of how our members are using their Earth Observation expertise to address climate change challenges around the globe.
