About the Space4Climate Services Directory

03 February, 2023

Space4Climate is a stakeholder-led and funded community, chaired by the UK Space Agency, representing the UK’s world-leading Earth Observation expertise and global collaborations regarding climate data from space.

The group members work together in delivering, sustaining and making use of trusted climate intelligence from space to drive global economic and societal benefit towards reaching a net zero, climate resilient future.

The Space4Climate Services Directory was created to reach out to target sectors, profiling and publicising UK world leading expertise in producing and exploiting climate data from space, including designing, exploiting and quality assurance of services derived from space-based climate data. The directory aims to provide a single-entry point for those who are taking climate action decisions, advising on informed climate action or seeking collaboration with trusted space-based climate service providers. These include end-users, users who are part of the climate services value chain, or a beneficiary for economic and, or, societal benefit, as well as those that are new to or interested in EO and climate.

The Directory is different from other resources in that:

  • The Directory focuses entirely on the field of climate data from space.
  • All organisations listed in the Directory work with a component of climate satellite data.
  • The Directory is a trusted source of quality assured climate services expertise in the UK. Every entry will be verified annually, directly with the organisation, to ensure information and quality standards are maintained and up to date.
  • All organisations listed in the Directory have been internally verified by the Space4Climate board and deemed to provide trusted climate services, except for the organisations marked with a * (see below).
  • Users of the Directory can trust the publication of organisations providing space based climate services, as Space4Climate has built an internal verification process which requires all entrants to provide the documents listed below. These documents are held internally by Space4Climate and will not be made public on the Directory.
    • Past work or references evidencing capability.
    • Evidence or statement of an incorporated quality assurance and check system relevant to the organisation.
    • Proof of UK registration and liability insurance.
  • Space4Climate acknowledges that start-ups and SMEs may not be able to provide all of the above information, and will allow those emerging and scaling organisations promising to obtain the necessary compliance documents within 6 months to be listed in the Directory, with a * to mark the organisation as “emerging”. Space4Climate offers to guide those organisations to obtain the necessary documentation and provide relevant support where need be.
