COP30 UK Online Event – Strengthening UK’s Climate Resilience: Unlocking Socio-Economic Value Through Satellite Climate Intelligence

Events  |  15 October, 2025

Join our free webinar for insights into how Earth Observation is delivering climate action & see real world examples while engaging with COP30’s leading issues

This is your chance to engage with the COP30 leading issues being discussed during the world summit, without having to travel to Brazil. We are focusing on how EO can be used to protect the UK from climate extremes that cost lives, infrastructure and national security, putting the economy at risk. Audiences will gain a clear insight on the key role that Earth Observation plays in delivering positive climate action in the UK and see real world examples while engaging with the COP30 leading issues being discussed in Brazil. In the final half hour we plan a live link up with Belem, hearing from UK attendees in the negotiations zone.

Co-organised by Space4Climate, UK Space Agency, National Centre for Earth Observation, Royal Meteorological Society and The Pearl at University of Reading

Climate resilience must be a national priority for the UK because risk from climate change threatens lives, infrastructure, the economy and national security. Extreme weather, flooding and heatwaves already cost the UK billions of pounds and strain critical infrastructure such as transportation, agriculture production, the NHS and our workforce. Building resilience protects vulnerable communities, strengthens food and energy security, and supports the UK’s legal and international climate commitments. Satellite Earth Observation (EO) plays a critical role in this effort, providing accurate, real-time data on weather patterns, land use, flooding, coastal erosion and carbon emissions. This data helps the UK to monitor risks, design effective adaptation strategies, and track progress towards resilience and net-zero goals.

Join to explore, from the end-user perspective, ongoing positive climate action initiatives across the UK public and private sector; identifying challenges, gaps and best practices across in strengthening collective strategic actions to achieve climate resilience between data communities and users. Gain insights to the key role that Earth Observation plays in delivering positive climate action in the UK.

Hear from speakers representing both public and private sectors who will showcase projects and programmes to maintain essential public services and products, highlighting a data-driven approach in local and national climate action with emphasis on existing use of Earth Observation data and future needs.

This event is suitable for newcomers to EO as well as those familiar with satellite data from space, climate services and applications, so please share with your wider connections.
