Here’s our round-up of on-going training opportunities relevant to the satellite Earth Observation sector.

  • Policy engagement online course, no date or time restriction
    A self-paced course of four modules, also from Methods For Change, that should take around 35 hours. Cost from €99. More here. There is more information on other courses and resources including impact and presenting research.
  • Connecting media to SDG Data and Stories
    Find inspiration, insights and practical advice on storytelling around the Sustainable Development Goals, including resources and tools for engaging with the UN system. Watch the webinar from IISD.
  • A happy beginning for your stories – self-paced
    A free online 30-minute video course, Storytelling Foundations, gives the basics of storytelling for scientists, engineers, researchers and more. It tutors in writing more quickly, story structures and improved presenting. The course comes with a £10 17-page worksheet which gives templates, examples and exercise. More here.
  • Fast Track Impact – policy engagement resources
    UKRI has published free training resources on engagement with policy-makers, aimed at researchers.
  • Communicate with confidence
    A new communications toolkit for scientists has been produced by the Royal Meteorological Society and S4C members the Met Office. It contains practical advice and strategies for weather and climate scientists for effective public engagement, managing harassment and maintaining online safety and tips for countering misinformation and disinformation to uphold the integrity of scientific communication.   • EU Climate Action Academy
    A new free European online learning hub to build climate knowledge, upskill, develop solutions and connect with climate action leaders. Find out more.
  • Early Career Science Writer Network
    This free membership group provides training and development opportunities tailored to early career professionals and offers a community space to chat openly with peers at the same level. It is supported by the Association of British Science Writers. Apply to join the group here.
  • Online training in climate and meteorology
    The Department of Meteorology at Reading University iruns courses covering:
    • Fundamentals of Meteorology
    • Statistics for Weather and Climate Science
    • Tropical Meteorology
    • Climate Services and Climate Impact Modelling

  • Data visualisation workshops available online
    Six workshops recordings presented by EUMETSAT, ECMWF, Mercator Ocean International and the European Environment Agency. The course pace looks at using EUMETSAT and Copernicus EO data for storytelling. Find the workshop videos here.
