Meet us at the UK Earth Observation Conference, Sept 6th-8th

News  |  02 September, 2022

We look forward to welcoming the UK Earth Observation community to the Space4Climate stand next week at the UK EO Conference.

It runs from Tuesday-Thursday at the National Space Centre in Leicester, bringing together leading UK experts with practitioners and decision-makers putting climate data from space into action.

We are hosting a session on Day 1 – ‘Climate Data, Services and Net-Zero Actions’, 3-5pm in the Planetarium, co-chaired by our Manager, Krupa Nanda Kumar and Ross Maidment, Earth Observation Core Scientist at Reading University. Full details are are below.

In addition we will be showcasing Space4Climate members’ innovative climate services, products and research on our stand in the John Eggleston Suite throughout the 3-day conference. Visit our stand to explore the updated S4C climate data from space storytelling app on the eye-catching Puffersphere.

Also at the event you can meet S4C members Telespazio, GMV, National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), RAL Space, Airbus, Defra, 4 Earth Intelligence (4EI), Satellite Applications Catapult, Ordnance Survey, British Antarctic Survey, University of Reading, University of Edinburgh, University College London, University of Leicester and UKSEDS, among others.

They range from industry, government agencies, funders, leading UK universities and research organisations, representing the depth and breadth of UK expertise in Earth Observation and Photogrammetry.

Meet our session speakers

Our session – ‘Climate data, services and Net-Zero actions’ – will demonstrate EO as an invaluable tool  for climate action. It will show how EO can be used to improve mitigation and adaption efforts, enhance climate monitoring, improve understanding of how the Earth’s system is changing and its implications for reaching Net-Zero.

The topics and speakers are:

Delivering on COP26 – Ian Spence, Business Development Director, GHGSat

Land Surface Temperature CCI: approaches to long-term data for climate – Dr Darren Ghent, University of Leicester

New building & industrial metrics enabled by Satellite Vu’s 3.5m high-res thermal imagery – Tianran Zhang, Isobel Gray, Ed Jeffrey, Jade Constantinou, Daniel Fisher, James Connor, Ross Hawton, Mike Kirstein, Maria Ghironi, Tobias Reinicke, Satellite Vu

The importance of Earth Observation in projecting multiple climate-related risks and impacts – James Brennan, Claire Burke, Laura Ramsamy, Hamish Mitchell, Sally Woodhouse, Kamil Kluza, Climate X

New space approach to real-time atmosphere environment monitoring – Simon Reid and Portia Bowman, D-Orbit UK; Josh Vande Hey, Leicester University
